Sheila’s Brush & Beyond: How My Art Can Be Licensed

As I board my flight to Ottawa today, beginning a new chapter as a companion and helper for my 92-year-old father, my artistic focus is shifting.

While I take a hiatus from painting to adjust to this transition, I’m turning my attention to art licensing.

What is Art Licensing?

In simple terms, art licensing allows businesses, musicians, publishers, and other creators to legally use an artist’s work for their own projects in exchange for a fee.

This could mean album covers, book illustrations, web images, presentation slides, merchandise, or even branding elements.

Licensing enables artwork to reach wider audiences while supporting the artist.

Each agreement is unique, and pricing is determined on a case-by-case basis.

A Perfect Example – Willowgreen Album Cover

One of the most rewarding aspects of licensing is seeing how my art finds its way to those who truly resonate with it.

A wonderful example is the Celtic music group Willowgreen, who discovered my painting Sheila’s Brush through a simple Google search.

They knew their album needed that image, and they reached out to secure the rights to use it as their cover.

Now, their album Sheila’s Brush is available worldwide, featuring my painting front and center.

It’s a perfect tribute to my Irish roots and my time in Newfoundland, where the legend of Sheila’s Brush—a late-season snowstorm—lives on in folklore.

Seeing my art paired with Celtic music feels like a beautiful synchronicity.

Why License My Art?

Are you a musician looking for the perfect album cover? A writer needing an evocative book or blog post illustration? A business seeking unique artwork for branding or merchandising?

Or maybe you know someone who is?

Licensing allows you to use my existing works in a way that aligns with your vision while also supporting my journey as an artist.

Browse My Available Work

While all of my original paintings have found new homes, you can view an archive of all my sold works by clicking here.

If you see something that speaks to you, let’s talk about licensing options!

Note: If you’re simply looking for a print for your wall, remember that you can order prints on canvas or paper of many of my paintings via my print-on-demand shop here.

How Licensing Works

Once a licensing agreement is in place, I provide a high-resolution digital file of the artwork in the appropriate size for your design team to work with.

Please note that while I supply the artwork, I do not handle graphic design. This ensures that you have full creative freedom to integrate the image into your project as needed.

Respecting Art & Copyright – A Gentle Reminder

Art is meant to be shared and enjoyed, and I love that my work resonates with so many.

That said, many people don’t realize that using an artist’s work—whether in blogs, on social media (unless shared directly from the source), as digital wallpaper, or by printing a copy for personal use—without permission is a copyright violation.

Artists make a living through their creations, and while I often give permission freely for personal use, I deeply appreciate being asked. A quick message and proper credit with a link helps honour the work that goes into each piece.

If you’d like to support my art, there’s also a donation button in my website’s footer—another lovely way to give back.

Thank you for valuing and supporting all artists’ creative process!
