The Making & Gifting of “Wolf Moon”

It’s rare that I get a vision for a completed painting before I start – it usual evolves intuitively one inspired layer at a time.

But as soon as I finished “Spirit of saint Patrick“, “Wolf Moon” appeared in my mind’s eye.

My joy at rediscovering the fun of working with Golden’s Clear Tar Gel definitely had something to do with it. I used it here for the edge designs and for the moon, which took overnight to dry clear. Notice how the coloured swirls in the moon itself seem to emanate from the wolf’s call.

Clear Tar Gel was developed by Golden Paints for the Pollock Movie (2000) to imitate the string like quality that Jackson Pollock achieved with enamel house paint.

My techniques seen in “The Making of Wolf Moon” video above (3:44-minutes) are much less wild than his … but just as fun for me!

I’m thrilled I listened to the call to bring this howling full moon wolf to light. It was purchased as a gift minutes after I posted this video on Facebook – bringing joy to at least 3: the artist, gift-giver & receiver! May watching it evolve be a blessing in your day too.

What is calling you this Spring? Make the call. Answer the call….

If you truly enjoy working with a medium, spending time with a particular person, doing a hobby or learning a new skill – make sure to schedule it in your week. It’s those moments of joy that raise our vibration and do so much good on so many levels.

Embrace the mystery as life unfolds before you, one inspired Spirit Call at a time.

The Gifting of Wolf Moon

I was thrilled and surprised when my patron Judy (read her story here) messaged me on Facebook soon after I posted a photo of this painting to say she wanted to buy it as a gift.

She didn’t tell me who it was for, and I didn’t ask.

Her last purchase from the same collection had been a gift for her daughter Janelle.

Although Judy was on the island, a series of events led to her niece Lesley coming to pick it up weeks later, at the same time as her own purchase. I’ll introduce you to that one in next week’s blog post.

Lesley kindly agreed to share her story here, knowing it may add to this painting’s inspirational experience for you.

“When Judy messaged she was picking up something from you and offered to pick up my painting at the same time, I got an intuitive hit:  “There’s something there for you”.
*
Then plans changed, and I ended up coming to pick them up. When I was holding both bags, something resonated from the smaller one. Something told me it was for me.
*
We went to Janelle’s the next night- she brought hers up from downstairs. I unwrapped mine. And then, Judy unwrapped “Wolf Moon” . When she took it out and I saw it, my body started vibrating. Before she even started coming to me, I started sobbing and backing away.
*
There was such resonance – I knew the vibration of it, of Judy. I knew on one level what was happening, but my body didn’t want to receive it. There’s an attitude to gratitude. I was scared of receiving.
*
Now, I know that was about 2 things. First came the physical form of letting myself receive a gift. That’s was my human self resisting. Second,  was the underlying energy of me coming back to my own Source. The wolf was part of my very first intuitive experience in meditation back in 2010.
*
Our foundation guides / totem animals are always there, but they come back to us as different times when needed.  For “Wolf Moon” to be given to me by my aunt Judy, who is very much in touch with the soul level, was a reminder to me to come back to Source.
*
I knew what she was doing. I had to let myself receive. Wolf is my soul. It’s my spirit guide. It was back for a reason.”

Sheila’s Brush – A Newfoundland Weather Tutorial

blue painting of tree

“Sheila’s Brush” (12″ x 12″) – SOLD

I live in St. John’s, a city where the last snowfall often happens in May, although it’s been known to come in June too.

This year has been unusually mild, and we didn’t receive nearly as much of the white stuff as during last year’s Snowmageddon, when the army had to come dig us out.

But we did have a surprise snowstorm soon after St. Patrick’s day in March, a weather event folks around here call Sheila’s Brush.

You can see why an island like Newfoundland, which is known for its rich & charming dialect, would have a ton of weather-related expressions. It even has its own dictionary!

As a Come From Away (CFA), having moved here in 2011, I’m still delighted, surprised, and sometimes confused by what I hear.

Just the other day, a friend commented on the foggy harbour photos I posted on Facebook with “Lovely. Tell your mother”.

Confused, I responded: “I’m not sure what you mean?”. This friend knew my mother had transitioned a little over a year ago. And anyway, why would I tell my mother about fog in the harbour?

Another friend responded: “Newfies say that about everything, lol. Some of us were brought up or raised up to tell your mudder everything.”

I smiled, having learned one more local turn of phrase.

(By the way, “Newfie”, an old term of endearment, is now usually perceived as offensive if spoken by outsiders).

I Love Newfoundland Weather

I’ve had friends move away from the island because of the weather. With its fog, snow, wind and rain records, it’s not a place for those who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

But it’s one of the reasons I love it here. I can’t tolerate extreme heat. I think the weather rocks! It’s not too hot or too cold. It has an average summer temperature of 16°C (61°F), while the winter hovers around 0°C (32°F).

Since I don’t do well in extreme heat, that’s a perfect summer in my books! And there’s usually enough snow to snowshoe in the winter, so that’s great too.

It saddened me to read / hear complaints about Sheila’s Brush a month ago.

Why? Because it seems such a waste of energy to gripe about something that’s out of our control, like the weather. Doesn’t it feel so much better to embrace it?

A shift of perception can transform your whole experience. Weather is a great place to start practicing that.

Weather – the Great Teacher for Worry-Warts

I used to be a worry-wart, a control freak. I can easily get anxious, which is why I practice all I do and share it here with you. I can only teach what I myself have learned.

And I’ve learned that worry only happens when I shift out of alignment with Source – when I lose my faith, my trust. It comes from our human selves, not our Spirit selves.

Worry comes from a desire to be in control. We either want to control our environment or the outcome of situations. That anxiety then leads to micromanaging, blaming, and complaining. Basically, it’s a choice for unhappiness.

Face it, there’s lots more out there we can worry about. But worry drains us of the energy to be and do well in this world.

I love Mark Twain’s quote:

‘I’ve had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened.’

The key is knowing what is in your control and what isn’t. Then comes the choice to shift your perception, attitude and behaviour to make the best of a situation.

The weather has taught me that.

I can complain all I want about snow in late March or delight in a sprinkling of white as late as June – the photographic opportunities would be amazing!

The real question is:  “Is this a problem I can solve? Or do I need to change how I feel about the perceived problem?”

Sheila’s Brush 2021:

When Sheila’s Brush hit, I was in the midst of a creative flow in the studio. I delighted in taking breaks in the backyard, photographing the crocus flowers piercing through the snow – which in turn led to the painting “Awakening“.

When the crocus disappeared under a blanket of white, I was glad to get an extra snowshoe in – likely the last of the season.

As I write this, we’re starting week 2 of heavy wind and rainfall warnings. I took a few very wet walks in great rain gear, but am choosing to do more dancing at home instead.

Weather is definitely a great teacher of radical acceptance and letting go of control. It simply is.

What else might you be worrying or complaining about that’s out of your control? What’s in your control to be or do that can help you regain your balance?

The Painting – Looking for a Good Home

May this painting created during this year’s Sheila’s Brush be a reminder of the freedom that comes from letting go of a need for control, complaining, and worrying.

May it be a visual anchor for your power to choose happiness through radical acceptance and inspired action.

When you look at it from different angles, you’ll see subtle iridescent colours appear behind the branches. You have to look to spot them though.

Awakening – A Crocus Lover’s Delight

Enjoy this celebration of the crocus and all its symbolism through my new painting “Awakening”  &  photography.

What Does the Crocus Mean?

As one of the first flowers to poke its head through the snow in the spring, the crocus is a messenger of hope, new life, new beginnings.

It also reminds me of Easter because of its timing – a Christian celebration of resurrection with much of the same symbolism.

And even if the crocus gets buried again and again by those spring flurries and storms, it emerges triumphant  to open its lightbulb shaped bloom into a radiant cup – open and ready to receive the light no matter what.

Symbol rebirth and often the first splash of colour after a long winter, this beauty has added layers of meaning according to its colour:

  • purple crocus: success, dignity
  • white crocus: innocence, purity, truth
  • yellow crocus: joy, good cheer

May the crocus flowers in this video be a reminder that it’s OK to stand out, tall and proud in all your colours.

And may they spread their cheer in your heart no matter your inner weather today.

The “Freedom Dancer” Surprise

painting of woman dancing with scarves

“Freedom Dancer” (12″ x 24″) – Sold

Want a feel-good story? Read on!

Amazing things happen when you follow the intuitive flow. Here’s a story of Universal orchestration involving 5 people on 3 continents and my new painting “Freedom Dancer”.

It all started when I dove into the intuitive painting process, not knowing what would evolve on this 12″ x 24″ canvas.

My friend Elaine Marie Dunphy, a name synonymous with “joy” and “dance”, kept cropping up in my heart & mind  – maybe even before the painting started.

I hadn’t connected with her in months, although always enjoyed her Nia Dance & chicken adventure posts on Facebook.

After multiple layers on canvas and visions of her in my mind’s eye, I finally followed through and sent her a message to see if everything was OK, letting her know she was very present with me in the studio.

When it came time to paint a main subject within the archway, I wasn’t surprised to feel a dancer come to light and to life.

Of course, I kept Elaine in the loop as the painting progressed, as well as all my Facebook Friends.

Sidebar – Being a Freedom Dancer!

Dance has been big in my life for as long as I remember.  There’s such freedom, such release, such joy in moving your body to music.

Apart from being scolded for performing a choreographed dance show to “These Boots are Made for Walking” for a boy in my bedroom at the age of 8, dance has always opened me to the pleasure of self-expression.

Being carried away by the rhythm in clubs as a young adult was thrilling. As the designated driver, I easily got drunk on music.

Later, I discovered the pure exhilaration of organized dance gatherings like Dancekinetics, Chakra Dance, Sacred Movement, Yoga Dance, and a bunch more in the various places I lived.

Here in Newfoundland, I met Elaine who introduced me to Nia, whose philosophy “is about connecting with your body, mind, spirit and emotions and giving yourself time to dance them all!”

The Quote

Was it any wonder, then, that I was moved to reach out to Elaine to write a quote about the benefits of dance to go with the blog post I was planning for “Freedom Dancer”.

She came back with this:

Finding joy through movement is the biggest gift I can give to my body, mind, spirit and emotions.
Become a sensation scientist. Shine the beautiful light that is uniquely you. The world needs more of that! Move your body your way and dance through life. Become a Freedom Dancer, like the one in this beautiful painting by Dominique. ~

Elaine Marie Dunphy – Nia on the Rock

As the blog post wouldn’t appear for a few weeks, I decided to include the quote on Facebook. I tagged Elaine, which automatically shared the images on her timeline.

A Message from Qatar

In comes a message from her brother Bill in Qatar.

Hi Dominique. We haven’t met but I’m Elaine’s younger sibling Bill…or Billy to her 🥰. So I’m teetering on the idea of surprising her with your gorgeous new Freedom Dancer painting. I was flying her to Portugal for her 50th birthday present from me and the summer of 2019 when it was supposed to happen wasn’t meant to be and didn’t pan out…so we then planned for 2020 and well yeah…obviously that was a write off. So bottom line is I haven’t celebrated her 1/2 century gift wise and this seems like a much more tangible and beautiful way to mark that bright light and colorful soul that is my full-of-joy sister. …I wanted to reach out and introduce myself to you before someone else scoops up HER painting…well of course your painting that has her name all over it…it is destined to be Elaine’s to enjoy and be reminded of her connection to you, her beautiful words she wrote about it, her connection to me and I think most importantly the connection she makes with all that cross her path as she introduces them to dance full of color and freedom and a release that I see so vividly in your expression in Freedom Dancer.

He just needed to double check with his wife in Portugal, yet another time zone.

A handful of messages later, the deal was done!

The Freedom Dancer Surprise- As Told By Elaine

It was a beautiful sunny day here, and I was out for a drive. My brother messaged me, so I pulled over to read it. It said:
Are you home? If not, when you get home, can we connect for a quick Zoom call?

Since I was parked on the side of the road reading this message, I thought – well, if it will only take a second, let’s Zoom right now. He said no, I need you to do it when you get home.

I spend a LOT of time online teaching, on Zoom, so the last thing I really wanted to do was get involved with a Zoom call as soon as I got home. The time difference between Newfoundland and Doha dictated that part! So glad I did!

Con joins me downstairs in my studio and we log into Zoom. I’m completely caught off guard when my brother says

please close your eyes and trust me.

Then I realized something was going on and Con was in on this….so I close my eyes,

Con steps out of the studio, returns, and places something in my arms. Bill tells me to open my eyes.

I just get this incredible feeling. I rip the yellow tissue paper, and I see the words FREEDOM DANCER. I just start to cry. Not the unhappy sad tears – literally happy tears and complete surprise!

I cannot believe this beautiful painting is mine! I dreamt of owning her. I even considered asking Dominique about putting her on a payment plan, as I felt so connected to her.

Except I didn’t do any of that – I quietly put it out to The Universe saying I really loved FREEDOM DANCER. She listened!! Then things unfolded as Bill’s story details.

After our Zoom call with Bill ended, I sent a teary-eyed thank you video to Dominique. We’ve been friends for many years, connected through mutual friends and our love of dance!  I always wanted to own one of her beautiful pieces of art for my dance studio. This week my wish came true!

Feeling very blessed about the whole story, my joy is literally bubbling over right now! It reinforces the connection that my brother and I share despite our physical distance.

Every time I visit my studio, it reminds me of this awesome Freedom Dancer Surprise!

As Told by Con, Husband & Collaborator

Background:  When I was a kid, I was a Star Trek and science fiction junky. So, my young life had lots of episodes where a force field surrounded a person and had a huge impact on their body, mind or both.

On to the present.

I was so happy to help out Bill in his quest to gift Elaine with Dominique’s beautiful artwork. He and I messaged back and forth, as did Dominique and I. I made excuses to Elaine about where I was going, etc.

I met up with Dominique, got the painting, booted it home, and hid it.

Elaine reluctantly agreed to do the Zoom call on the computer instead of the phone, grumbling and mumbling about how all this was unnecessary.

So she connects with Bill and is sitting in front of the laptop and camera, lights and audio gear all hooked up. Whew.

Bill says close your eyes for a moment. I put the painting in Elaine’s hands. She was probably tipped off by the shape of the package but she didn’t say anything and continued to unwrap it. She saw the words Freedom Dancer printed on the back of the frame. Immediately, she burst into tears. Happy tears but deep sobbing. Oh boy!

That’s when it happened: The force field hit me. Elaine was emitting so much emotion that she completely overwhelmed me. I was 2 feet away from her and it was a physical feeling as much as an intellectual or emotional one. What an amazing sensation!

So please imagine how Elaine must have been feeling. For her energy field to throw off so much power of feeling. Realize how much this special gift affected her!

I hope my memory serves my body well into my dotage. If I can hold onto that memory, I will be a fulfilled person for the rest of my days.

Well done, BIll. Well done, Dominique.

Thank You Universe – and all its moving parts

Well done everyone!

Inspiration is being moved to do something and following through.

We’re all moving parts in a Universally orchestrated manifestation for the Highest Good of all.

Intuition is useless without action!

We don’t need to know what the big picture will look like ahead of time. Often, we may never even know the impact of our follow-throughs.

This time, however, we did,

We all wanted to share this story to encourage you to follow through on your intuitive guidance, no matter how big or small.

Each one of us heard our calls and answered:

  • I unknowingly created this painting for Elaine and reached out to her as she repeatedly entered my heart & thoughts.
  • Elaine gladly responded to my request for a dance quote.
  • Her brother saw the post and acted on his desire to gift it to her.
  • His wife agreed.
  • Elaine’s husband jumped on board to coordinate the surprise.
  • Elaine opened to receiving the painting she wanted in an unexpected way.
  • No one else interfered by offering to purchase it before this could all happen.
  • and the story goes on –

Who knows how sharing this story might inspire you and others to follow through on their intuition… and the impact that could have on the world.

We are all instruments of joy, love, peace, etc. God, The Universe, Source Energy (whatever name you’re comfortable with) acts through us. Our job is to open to hearing and to act.

I can’t express how fulfilling it was to be a channel for the love and thanks being expressed to Elaine for all she is and all she does through this “Freedom Dancer Surprise”. I can only tell you there were plenty of tears of joy and giggles as the messages passed back and forth.

From the isolation of my studio, I got to connect with people around the planet to help co-create special moment for someone I care about.

Dance on Elaine! Thank you for being you!

Sunset in the Dreamtime – painting your happy place

Where is your happy place?

If you asked me, I just might tell you about my sunset kayak on the Mobile canal on the Irish Loop of Newfoundland with my friends Tina White & Kerri Best (featured in the video above).

I rarely paint what I see with my eyes open. I do, however, paint what I feel. And my experience there was multi-dimensional!

The painting “Sunset in the Dreamtime” is the colour, texture, and enhanced crystal energy of a moment in time – a happy place. Can you feel its energy?

The space between the canvases represent that time between waking moments when you re-emerge into Spirit – your daily reset button. It also acts as an altar to keep / energize the stones you sleep with. This past year, an amethyst and rose quartz crystal have been my bedmates.

According to Abraham Hicks, when you fall asleep after a day of feeling good, in alignment with your Higher Self, you’ll glide easily into pleasant dreamtime before re-emerging into non-Physical. Your dreams are your transition there.

“All dreams are your conscious interpretation of the vibrational contenance that you’ve been practicing lately.”

So spend time in appreciation, beauty, and love, every day to manifest more of the same in your dreams – your daily gateway to re-connecting with Spirit.

Once there, we all get to hit the reset button. Isn’t that comforting?!

The trick is to then carry that alignment found when our consciousness is focused on the non-physical back into waking life. Abraham Hicks talks of the importance of those first 17 seconds upon waking – the time it takes to set a vibration.

Visual cues such as a painting of your happy place can remind you to end and start your day with appreciation, creating high vibrational momentum for the journey forward.

So yes, enjoy your reset time in that sacred space of sleep. But also focus your attention on what raises your vibration during the day to ensure a smoother transition into sleep and a happier, healthier waking life.

As Abraham Hicks says,

“You are Source Energy in a physical body…. You’re born with a guidance system that lets you know whether or not you’re allowing the energy that creates worlds to flow through you unfettered in full blown fashion, or if you’re pinching it off. So it’s important right now that you start to care about how you feel … in thoughts and actions.

My sunset kayak represented in “Sunset in the Dreamtime” was truly a feel-good blessing in my life. Painting my happy place and seeing it every time I walk by it in my studio helps to keep me in my inner happy place.

The labradorite that mimics the logo on the kayak energizes the piece. Labradorite is a powerful protector against negativity, raises consciousness and enhances intuition. The rose quartz is a stone of deep inner healing, harmony, peace and universal love.

Do you have something on your walls that reminds you to go to your happy place – both inwardly and outwardly?

If not, go ahead and create it or purchase an artist’s rendition that speaks to your heart & soul.

See if any of my paintings resonate with your inner callings. You can see all my available originals here or order prints of your favourites in your choice of size and medium here.

Creatively Connect & Celebrate

“Spirit of St. Patrick” (12″ x 24″) – SOLD

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations were very different for many this year due to COVID-19. Never one for green beer or hangovers, I played in green paint instead.

I’d just received news from my pre-paid 2019 Ireland tour operator that my May 2020 booking would be postponed yet another year. I’ll admit, I was relieved as I really didn’t want to travel this May. We’ve just come out of lockdown in St. John’s, Newfoundland and a 3rd wave has started in some provinces. Overseas travel doesn’t appeal to me right now.

If you’re wondering, I did have travel insurance, but hadn’t realized that if you buy it through the airlines, it only covers the cost of the flight, not tours. Live & learn… My 2-week tour was the only part of my 2020 2-month self-directed artist residency in Ireland that wasn’t refunded.

All that aside, I wanted to spend last Tuesday the 17th connected to the spirit of my Irish ancestors in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. I also wanted to let go of any disappointment or expectations about my plans to one day visit Ireland.

So, after my yearly “Top o’ the morning to ye!” message to my father in Ottawa, I immersed myself in the joy of creation and the heart-healing energy of green.

Creativity is a great way to connect to a place, thing, person, or concept. Be it through song, poetry, story writing, painting, collage, sculpture, etc., you can energetically dive into an exploration of your feelings and ideas to express them in your chosen art form.

For me, the canvas is my place to process. As I painted, one layer at a time without knowing what wanted to emerge, I surrendered into the mystery of the unknown as one inspired action led to another.

After the base layers of greens & golds, I played with textured edges, reminding me of the elaborate decorations in illuminated manuscripts such as the Book of Kells.

It was only after I’d used the same Clear Tar Gel medium to create the spiral hill and tree that memories surfaced of all the Irish historic fiction novels & stories I read back in 2019.

Could this be the Hill of Tara calling me? Was that the ash tree from which Jesus’s walking staff was made and later given to St. Patrick? Is it the tree of life?

And when a large moon asked to come to light, I knew it had to be a Celtic one. So thanks again to the Irish artist Courtney Davis for allowing me to use the line drawing from his book “Knotwork & Spirals” for this traditional triple spiral design. Once I’d spent hours dotting it, I covered it in a thick layer of clear tar gel and then repeated the main triskelion in floating white dots – adding depth and dimension to both the painting and my experience.

Oh how I relished my hours of meditative dot-therapy, chanting and connecting to the Ireland of old and new in the best way I could… for now.  This was a different kind of St. Patrick’s trip!

So if COVID-19 is keeping you far from the places, people, and celebrations that call to your heart, may I suggest you use your creativity to connect and celebrate in new ways.

Have fun with it.

  • Write a song about something you’d like to see happen one day.
  • Create a family photo collage as a birthday gift for a dear one that lives far.
  • Paint how you imagine a country might feel.
  • Draw in warm colours if you’re cold & lonely.
  • Make chocolate creations to celebrate Easter and send them in the mail.
  • the possibilities are endless.

Dive in without knowing what it’s meant to become. Allow the process to bring you closer together.

Creativity is healing. Creativity is connecting. Creativity is rejoicing.

One thing for sure, I was much happier the next day to wake up to my evolving new painting “The Spirit of St. Patrick” than to a hangover. I’ve never had one, but I hear they’re not fun…

Sacred Sight – the painting

painting of Vesica Pisces with eye in the middle and butterfly on top

“Sacred Sight” (20″ x 20″) – $1,497 – Buy it here.

Infused with community prayers & intentions, this intuitive visionary painting called “Sacred Sight” invites us to shift perceptions to see the true colours of the world and those in it, including ourselves.

It was also inspired by the Vesica Pisces eye design that emerged in a previous painting, “True Love“.

The day before I started painting, I was inspired to ask my FB Friends what they’d like me to focus on while creating a painting that had already given me its name, “Sacred Sight”. They answered

  • joy & happiness
  • peace, love & healing
  • bless my eyes, bless my soul
  • compassion & understanding
  • empathy & harmony
  • raw clarity
  • love & health
  • acceptance & inclusivity
  • safety
  • rising radiance
  • unattachment, trust & intuition
  • ease & serenity
  • humanitarian leadership & freedom

For 3 days, I held space for these prayers & intentions as the colours and symbolism emerged.

For these prayers and intentions to manifest in our world, starting with us, we need to open to the paradigm shifts that are possible when we look at things differently.

The eye at the heart of the Vesica Pisces represents true vision, possible when we ask to see through the eyes of our Higher Self in Divine Union.

I knew I had wanted to re-create that eye at the centre of sacred geometry. What surprised me one night as I was about to leave the studio to go to bed was the calling of a butterfly.

I’ll admit, I was hesitant. I had thought the painting might already be finished. But I know better than to doubt that I might ruin a painting by following intuitive guidance.

So the next morning, I created a stencil (see video below) and used special interference paints by Golden to create the birthing of a new way of seeing the world. The wispy butterfly appears transparent white from some angles and iridescent colours from others and in some light.

With this symbol of transformation, I could feel how “Sacred Sight” was becoming an invitation to shift not only our perceptions, but our very inner reality that forms our outer reality.

So again, this painting asks us “How would your vision shift if you were looking through the eyes of Spirit, of Love?” (or whatever other terms feels good to you)

Start with looking at areas in your life where you feel discomfort, dis-ease, pain, etc. Can you shift your perspective to see how challenges are happening for you, not to you? Can you see how you’re being called to grow into a more evolved version of you?

It’s time to let go of our caterpillar life to explore what it means to fly as a butterfly.

Where else are you being asked to look through your heart, not through the limited patterns of your mind?

And be gentle with yourself and others as we all learn to see with new eyes.

Enjoy watching the layers of chaos and life experience become a vibrant radiant harmony of colours & symbolism in “The Making of Sacred Sight” (3-minute video below).

True Love – the painting

“True Love” (15″ x 30″) – $1,377

Can you imagine feeling in every atom of your being that you are truly seen, accepted and unconditionally loved by Source, by God/Goddess?

What would you then see in the mirror as you saw yourself through the eyes of your soul?

How would your relationships change if you could also see others through the eyes of Divinity within you?

How would the whole world change if we could all look beyond the masks, the pain, the fear, the behaviours – and see, accept and unconditionally love others for who they truly are – spirit in individualized human expressions of the Divine? With that kind of love, it would be so much easier to emerge more fully into who we truly are.

True Love…

That’s what I was focused on as I entered the zone for a Valentine’s Day painting marathon.

And this is the painting that came out of it.

I wasn’t surprised to discover that the Vesica Pisces emerged from the layers of intuitive painting –  sacred geometry representing the joining of Heaven & Earth.

I was thrilled when a vision of an eye came forth from contemplating the sacred space at the centre of the 2 joined circles.

Sacred Sight …

It made sense that the Divine would have a space within what I knew would become a portrait of romantic / couple love.

It’s as if the layers upon layers of mark-making – the colours, textures, blessings and scars of life experiences – came together as a foundation for something greater than the sum of its parts.

Then came the golden temple roof over the eye – a sacred container for the Twin Flames to shine brightly unto and for each other and for the Highest Good of all.

Passion. Harmony. Union. Safety. Clear Vision. Unconditional Love.

Having known celestial unconditional love, the yin & yang of humankind are joined in this couple to hold each other as they stand in their Truth, in True Love.

From all that came before – in this lifetime and beyond – they now vow to learn to see, accept and unconditionally love each other.

That was my Valentine’s Day vision – and one I still hold  within my heart as a possibility for myself and all who walk on this Earth longing to fully reconnect to Source, soul, and soulmate.

So may it be.

Held in the Arms of an Angel

“Held” – 11″ x 14″ – Prints available. Original SOLD.

Ceremony. Communion. Connection. What a wonderful day in the studio commemorating the 1-year anniversary of my mother’s transitioning back into spirit form.

With several thousand kilometres between us, I couldn’t join my father, sister, and brother at the gravesite in Ottawa. So for 8 hours before their FaceTime call, I focused on being with my mother in the painting studio.

It may sound odd, but I feel closer to her now than I did in her last years with dementia.

As I lived several provinces away, phone & video calls didn’t always seem to register with her. I could feel her recognition, however, when I visited, even if she couldn’t translate her thoughts into words anymore.

Now, I celebrate her freedom from her pained body and mind.

I’m so grateful she chose to let go right before the pandemic – for her Highest Good and the Good of All.

That made it possible for me to spend a month with my father after the funeral, before travel restrictions. More importantly, he didn’t have to suffer not being able to visit her at the long-term care residence when they locked down.

Maman, you were always a great planner! Thanks for your gift of Divine Timing.

And thanks for this painting we co-created together on the anniversary of your passing from this world back to your Home beside God, where I know you continue to hold us, support us, love us, and connect with us in various ways.

I may no longer be able to hug you as I so loved to do. But I felt held on February 3rd, with my head close to your celestial heart, wrapped in your arms and your wings.

Shine on, blessed mother, in your eternally radiant Spirit Self. Your Light continues to guide me in mine.

Coeur de Fleur – Part 2

If you want your life to be bright and vibrant, you can’t just pile up colours on top of the darkness. They’ll just end up muddy. First must come the light.

That’s what this painting “Coeur de Fleur” reminded me after I brought it back to life from its “ruined” state 2 weeks ago (see previous post).

As I learned during my time at the Vienna Academy of Visionary Art, the Old Masters used a layering painting technique in which they added shades of white egg tempera in between layers of coloured oil glazes. This kept their colours luminous and affected how the light refracted through the many subsequent layers.

Basically, the Old Masters knew to add light before colour.

I’ve been using a variation of that technique with professional acrylic paints for the past 7 years.

I wish I’d photographed the full painting after I “ruined” it, but the first picture above gives you an idea. The whites are definitely not white anymore. The varnish had reactivated a new black product I wasn’t used to, which bled all over the painting.

When I contacted my paint & varnish company, Golden Paints, they told me I could add a clear polymer isolation coat over the varnish and then paint again. They couldn’t guarantee that it would last for generations to come, but it would be fine past my lifetime. (So, if you like this painting and would like to buy it, just know it may not become a family heirloom for far future generations….)

Great! My heart garden wasn’t a lost cause. It was still a work in progress.

I reflected on the symbolism of my studio experience as I painted white back into the bouquet of my heart, adding light back to the painting, before adding colour where called for.

If you’re in a dark space and you revert to behaviours or habits that temporarily seem to add colour to your life (drinking, addictive shopping, whatever your drug of choice), you won’t come out with the happiness you seek. Often, those choices just add to the problem, to the darkness. Your life will continue to feel muddy.

First you need to add the Light. Open to love. Connect with your Higher Self and whatever Higher Power you believe in.

From that space, if you choose to watch a couple of movies and eat a bag of chips (yes, my drugs of choice), they end up becoming a treat, a splash of colour in your day.

Having said that, I’m very proud of myself that I succeeded in my goal to only watch 1 movie a week in January. My treat at the end of the month? I watched the whole 5th season of Outlander in a weekend. Fun! Now back to 1 movie a week in February.

So take a moment to connect to your Light and to make your decisions from that space.

What can you weed from your garden to add luminescence to your life? How can you make space for your Light to shine brighter?

That’s my bit of studio philosophy for the week….

May your heart continue to blossom in the Light of Love. May your days be bright and vibrant as you continue to tend to your heart callings, one blessed layer at a time.

Big hug!
